Healing Hacks for Every Day: A Superfood Salad, Simple Breathing, and a Powerful New Resource

When you’re navigating a cancer journey, the little things matter. Small shifts in food, mindset, and daily practices can add up to powerful steps toward healing. That was the heart of our latest Food for Thought webinar, where host Stacy Fritz invited us to her table for a “Lunch with Stacy” conversation. Download the salad recipes here >

A Healing-Friendly Salad in Under 5 Minutes

Stacy demonstrated one of her favorite repeatable meals: a chopped “Funfetti” superfood salad, bursting with colors, flavors, and phytochemicals — the disease-fighting compounds found in plants. Using simple Trader Joe’s hacks, she showed how to turn two pre-made salad mixes (minus the “junk”) into a vibrant, nutrient-dense base.

Add-ins included:

  • Sweet potato for anti-inflammatory support

  • Tomatoes for lycopene and rich phytonutrients

  • Avocado for healthy fats

  • Optional extras like onions, garlic, mushrooms, or protein (grilled chicken, nuts, etc.)

The beauty of this salad? It’s customizable to your unique nutrition plan and stays delicious even as leftovers.

Nourishing Beyond the Plate

Healing isn’t just about food. Stacy reminded us that how we eat matters too. By activating the parasympathetic “rest and digest” system through simple equal-ratio breathing, we can better absorb nutrients and reduce stress. She also highlighted prayer and intentional pausing as part of the meal experience.

Sweet & Simple Extras

  • DIY Sun Tea Hack – using organic tea bags and filtered water, brewed in the sunshine and paired with a splash of sparkling lemon tea.

  • Fresh figs – a naturally sweet, fiber-rich treat that supports gut health and satisfies cravings.

New Resource Spotlight: SupportNow.org

One of the most exciting tools shared was SupportNow.org — a free online hub for patients and caregivers. From fundraising and grant searches to meal trains and streamlined communication, SupportNow makes it easier to manage the overwhelming logistics of cancer care.

Looking Ahead

The session also previewed two exciting upcoming events:

  • The Believe Big Integrative Care Symposium (Sept 13, Towson, MD + Virtual) — a full day of expert-led sessions on integrative cancer therapies.

  • Our next Food for Thought webinar (Sept 17) with oncology nutritionist Jen Nolan, focused on anti-inflammatory cooking.
